How To Get FAA Drone License

Getting an FAA drone license, also known as a Remote Pilot Certificate, is a necessary step for those who want to legally fly drones for commercial or business purposes in the United States.

The first step in getting your FAA drone license is to pass an aeronautical knowledge test. This test is administered by the FAA and covers topics such as airspace regulations, weather, and emergency procedures. You can prepare for the test by studying the FAA's Remote Pilot Study Guide or by taking an online course.

Once you pass the aeronautical knowledge test, you will need to submit an application to the FAA. This application will require you to provide personal information, such as your name and address, as well as information about your drone, including its make and model. You will also need to pass a TSA security background check.

Once your application is approved, you will receive your Remote Pilot Certificate, which is valid for two years. To maintain your license, you will need to pass a recurrent aeronautical knowledge test every 24 months.

It's also important to note that in addition to obtaining the Remote Pilot certificate, you are also responsible to comply with FAA regulations and guidelines such as flying below 400 feet, keeping the drone in visual line of sight, not flying near other aircraft, airports or people, and not flying over protected landmarks or restricted airspace.

In summary, getting an FAA drone license requires passing an aeronautical knowledge test, submitting an application to the FAA, and passing a TSA security background check. It also requires renewing your Remote Pilot certificate every 24 months and following FAA regulations and guidelines for safe drone operation. It's important for drone pilots to stay informed about any updates to regulations and guidelines, as they may change over time.
