Drone On: A Definition and Examples

The phrase "drone on" means to speak or talk at length, usually in a monotonous or boring manner. It can also refer to a continuous, low-pitched humming sound, such as that made by a drone.

For example, you might say something like: "I had to sit through a two-hour meeting where the speaker just droned on and on without any breaks." This means that the speaker was talking for a long time without pause and in a way that was possibly dull or tedious.

Alternatively, you might describe a sound as "droning" if it is a continuous, low-pitched humming noise, like the sound made by a drone aircraft or a bee.
